New Radio System Planned- Fall 2004 Installation began this fall for the first
ever island-wide radio system for St. John Rescue. The goal of the major
radio project is to drastically improve communications across the
islands rough terrain, and to reduce 'dead spots' where radio and other
communications are traditionally difficult at best. This required
raising $55,000 for the inital equipment and significant cooperation
with the National Park Service, Virgin Island Government agencies and
private individuals on multiple islands. Permission was granted by the
Ministry of Communications & Works of the Government of the British
Virgin Islands to install communications equipment (repeaters) for
emergency purposes on CCT Boatphone towers in the BVI. A two-way relay site
was
approved to reflect signals to/from the established St. John Rescue
central repeater site on Mamey Peak on St. John from the CCT tower on
Yost. .

Coral Bay Vehicle Preparations Underway -
January 2004
St. John Rescue members are
prioritizing their efforts to ready Rescue-2 for deployment in the Coral
Bay area. As there are no ambulances stationed in Coral Bay, Rescue-2 is
being retrofitted to provide transportation in emergency situations
where minutes count. When originally donated to STJ Rescue, Rescue-2 was
a termite ridden, unsafe vehicle that was on it's last legs. The efforts
of members, friends and other volunteers have brought new life to the
vehicle!Click on photo for more pictures |
